Since the establishment of Asan Medical Center in 1989, the Division of Nephrology has been dedicated to excellence in treatment, research, and education, establishing itself as a leader in the field of Nephrology in South Korea.
We operate the largest dialysis unit in South Korea, staffed by experienced dialysis specialists. Under the leadership of Professor Han Duck-Jong from the Department of General Surgery, our team has performed the highest number of kidney transplantations in the nation, with an exceptional success rate approaching 100%. We have also performed the most ABO-incompatible kidney transplantations in Korea, a field that continues to advance rapidly.
Our division strives to optimize drug dosages for both Korean and international patients based on real-world treatment outcomes and data from major clinical trials. Thanks to the remarkable progress we have achieved, our alumni physicians now hold leading positions in prestigious hospitals across the country, helping countless patients regain their health and lead better lives.
We are committed to safeguarding your health and well-being, and we will continue to provide trustworthy care anc comfortable services.
Dialysis Room
The Dialysis Room provides life-sustaining treatment for patients with end-stage kidney disease through dialysis therapy. We operate both hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis rooms, where nephrologists and nurses specialized in dialysis deliver prompt, expert care.
Hemodialysis Room
The Hemodialysis Room is equipped with 70 beds, including negative-pressure isolation rooms designed in accordance with established isolation precaution guidelines. Strict infection control is ensured through comprehensive management of the water filtration system and regular water quality monitoring.
Dedicated physicians and nurses, who understand the importance of caring for dialysis patients, are stationed in the hemodialysis room to provide counseling and education. They help patients with chronic kidney disease determine the most appropriate dialysis modality.
Physicians and nurses are also encouraged to continually enhance their skills and expertise through ongoing education, as well as active participation in various symposiums and educational workshops. These ongoing research and performance improvement activities significantly contribute to helping patients restore their health and maintain a high quality of life.
Kidney Transplantation Clinic
Kidney transplantation is a surgical procedure in which a healthy kidney is transplanted into a patient with kidney failure. Since the 1990s, the number of kidney transplantations has steadily increased worldwide, and AMC has performed the highest number of kidney transplantations annually in South Korea since 1996.
Peritoneal Dialysis Clinic
During a five-day, six-night hospital stay, patients receive individualized education from nurses specialized in peritoneal dialysis. The program covers understanding the disease, the peritoneal dialysis procedure, self-care techniques, exercise, lifestyle modifications, diet, potential complications, and emergency responses, helping patients to live safely and healthily while on dialysis.
